Join Bo and Ryan as they talk about perhaps the most important aspect of membership site building -- choosing a niche. Bo will go through 8 factors that will help you not only choose a niche, but help you be more confident that the niche you choose will be a success.

The Membershipsitebuilding.com Podcast is a light-hearted, conversational style show that uses a combination of entertainment and facts to deliver information that can otherwise be considered "dry".  If you prefer "just the facts", all the pertinent information is listed below in the key points.  If you want to have fun while learning, listen away!

Key Points

  • a "niche" is a specific segment of the market that your membership site will target
  • Many times, your expertise or knowledge will determine the niche that is best suited for you
  • there is no formula for choosing a niche, rather guidelines or factors that will help you to determine which niche may be best for you
  • factor #1: What is the size of the market within the niche?  Is it big enough?
  • factor #2: How much competition is there within the niche?
  • factor #3: Did you consider the demographics within the niche?  Are they potential members who would join your membership site?
  • factor #4: What is the level of emotion generated by the niche?  Elvis = good.  Q-tips = bad.
  • factor #5: How much information is available on the niche? Make sure there is enough.
  • factor #6: What value can you add?  Put yourself in the shoes of the member.  Would you pay to join your membership site?
  • factor #7: Your influence within the niche.  The greater your influence, the better the niche.
  • factor #8: Your interest within the niche.  The more interest you have within the niche, the better choice that niche will be for you.

I really enjoyed this one! Especially the music. The eight factors that were discussed are very practical; however, easily missed. It took me some time to find my first nich and it took someone else pointing it out to me. Now all possibilities are open:) Thanks guys!!

Are you kidding me?

I am not interested in your attempts to be funny. I joined this site hoping to get some solid ideas on growing the membership of my website. I couldn't get past the first 2 minutes of this podcast. I hope you guys were having a good time because I wasn't.

That was one of our most tame shows!  You better not listen to any other ones. And yes, we were having a great time.

Hi guys,

That was simple and very informative.  I found myself needed to work on all these 8 points.  Also, the 8th key is very important inorder to keep a well balance life I need to have my assistant take over more task.
